We inspect accessible structural members such as slabs, beams, columns, foundations and retaining walls to identify visible distress, cracking, excessive deflection, corrosion, deterioration or construction defects. Photographs, measurements and available drawings are recorded as supporting information.
We study available architectural and structural drawings, structural member dimensions and reinforcement information where accessible. Where essential details are unknown, additional opening-up works, material testing or specialist investigations may be recommended before reaching final conclusions.
We assess the proposed loading changes and review the adequacy of existing slabs, beams, columns and foundations for additional storeys or building extensions. The structural load path, lateral stability and possible need for strengthening are considered.
Where required, an engineering model is prepared using suitable structural analysis software to estimate actions, load distribution, member capacities and structural performance under the intended use.
