Reinforced Concrete Retaining Walls

Practical Retaining Wall Solutions for Sloping and Restricted Sites

TTS Engineering & Consultancy Services provides structural analysis and design of reinforced concrete retaining walls for building sites, access roads, boundary areas and sloping land. Each retaining wall is considered as a complete engineering system involving the retained soil, groundwater, foundation and reinforced concrete wall.

OUR SERVICES

Practical solutions for real building needs.

Retaining walls are often required to create usable land on sloping sites and to protect buildings and surrounding areas where ground levels differ. A suitable design depends on the height of retained earth, ground conditions, surcharge loads, available space and drainage.

We develop practical retaining wall arrangements for small- and medium-scale construction projects and coordinate the proposed wall levels and foundation details with the site layout.

OUR TECHNICAL APPROACH

Our technical approach.

Our Retaining Wall Design Approach. The following design and assessment services are tailored to the particular project requirements and available site information.

01

Site Levels and Ground Conditions

We review available survey information, slope profiles and ground conditions to understand the retained height, the location of nearby buildings and access restrictions. Site observations and suitable soil investigations assist in selecting realistic design parameters and a suitable founding level.

02

Earth Pressure and Surcharge Loads

We evaluate lateral soil pressures arising from retained earth and consider additional loads from buildings, vehicles or other nearby uses where relevant. Where groundwater may affect the wall, water pressure and drainage arrangements are also considered in the design.

03

Stability of the Retaining Structure

The wall and its foundation are assessed for sliding, overturning, foundation bearing pressure and other relevant stability conditions. Overall or global slope stability is also considered where site conditions indicate that a separate assessment is necessary.

04

Reinforced Concrete Structural Design

We design wall stems, bases, toes, heels and associated reinforced concrete members to resist bending, shear and other applicable actions. Reinforcement, concrete cover, construction joints and the required structural detailing are selected according to applicable standards.

05

Drainage and Water Management

Appropriate drainage is essential to retaining wall performance. We consider suitable backfill, filter arrangements, weepholes, subsoil drains and discharge paths where required to limit hydrostatic pressure behind the wall. Water should be directed to an acceptable outlet.

06

Drawings and Construction-Stage Guidance

We prepare engineering drawings and typical construction details suited to the selected retaining wall arrangement. Where included in the consultancy scope, site inspections and advice may be provided regarding founding conditions, reinforcement, drainage, backfilling and construction sequences.

OUR COMMITMENT

Safe Structures,
Smart Solutions.

Our objective is to provide safe and practical retaining wall designs that respond to the actual terrain, available space, ground conditions and intended land use. Proper drainage and foundation performance are treated as important parts of the design.
